The short version

We collect what we need to sell you saffron, ship it, and answer your messages.
Payments are handled by Shopify and its payment partners. We never see or store your full card number.
We don't sell your personal information for money.
You can ask us to see, correct or delete your information at any time: email info@starsaffron.co.

Who we are

This website and store are operated by Star Saffron ("Star Saffron", "we", "us"), [legal entity name, e.g. "Star Saffron LLC"], [mailing address]. Our store runs on Shopify. This policy explains how we collect, use and share personal information when you visit starsaffron.co, buy from us, sign up for updates, request a wholesale quote, or contact us (together, the "Services").

If this policy and our Terms of Service ever conflict on how we handle personal information, this policy applies.

What we collect

"Personal information" means information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you. Depending on how you use the Services, we collect:

Contact details: your name, email address, phone number, and billing and shipping addresses.
Order details: what you buy, return or cancel, your order history, and any gift note you add at checkout.
Payment details: your payment method and confirmation of payment. Card numbers are collected and processed by Shopify and its payment processors, not stored by us.
Messages: what you send through our contact form, by email, or in a wholesale inquiry. For wholesale, this includes your business name, location, business type, estimated quantity, intended use and preferred delivery date.
Email sign-ups: your email address if you join our launch or newsletter list.
Device and usage information: your IP address, browser and device type, and how you move around the site (pages viewed, items added to cart). This is collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies.
Account details: your login email, saved addresses and preferences, if you create an account.
Reviews: your review, rating and the name you choose to display, if you leave a product review.

Where it comes from

From you, when you place an order, fill in a form, sign up for emails or contact us.
Automatically, from your browser or device when you use the site, through cookies and similar technologies.
From our service providers, such as Shopify, payment processors and shipping carriers, when they handle information for us.

How we use it

To run your order: take payment, ship your saffron, send order and shipping updates, and handle returns.
To answer you: reply to questions, wholesale inquiries and support requests.
To keep things safe: prevent fraud, secure checkout and protect the site.
To improve the store: understand which pages and products are useful, and fix what isn't working.
To send updates you asked for: launch news and promotions by email, only if you signed up. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.
To show relevant ads: show you Star Saffron ads on other websites based on your activity on our store. You can opt out at any time (see "Your choices and rights").
To meet legal obligations: keep tax and accounting records, and respond to lawful requests.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only as needed to run the Services:

Shopify, which hosts our store and processes checkout. See the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy.
Payment processors, to take payment securely.
Shipping carriers [e.g. USPS, UPS], to deliver your order.
Our email provider [name], to send order emails and any newsletters you signed up for.
Advertising partners [e.g. Meta, Google], if you haven't opted out, to show you our ads. They use the information under their own privacy policies.
Authorities or advisers, when the law requires it, to protect our rights, or as part of a sale or restructuring of our business.

We do not sell personal information for money. Some privacy laws treat sharing data for targeted advertising as a "sale" or "share". Where those laws apply, you can opt out as described below.

Shopify's own use of data

Shopify collects information about how you use our store to provide and improve its services. In some cases, including certain Shopify features that combine information across stores, Shopify is responsible for that processing and for handling your requests about it. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep your cart working, remember your region and currency, keep checkout secure, and understand how the site is used. Our site also loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the store, like the cart, may stop working.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
Correct information that is wrong.
Delete your information, subject to records we must keep by law (such as tax records).
Opt out of targeted advertising and the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information: manage your data-sharing choices.
Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email. We'll still send emails about your orders.
Appeal our decision if we decline your request, by replying to our response.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out request for that browser, and for your account if we can link the two. We don't respond to other "Do Not Track" signals.

To make a request, email info@starsaffron.co. We may need to verify your identity first. You can also ask someone to make a request for you; we'll ask for proof they're authorized. We'll respond within the time the law requires, and we won't treat you differently for using your rights.

How long we keep it

Order and payment records: [7 years], for tax and accounting.
Messages and wholesale inquiries: [2 years] after our last contact, unless we become trade partners.
Email sign-ups: until you unsubscribe.
Site usage data: as set by Shopify and our analytics tools.

Security

We use Shopify's secure, encrypted checkout and limit who can access customer information. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't send sensitive details, like card numbers, by email or through our contact form.

Children

Our store is not meant for children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority where they live. If you believe a child has given us their information, email us and we'll delete it. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

International visitors

We're based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in other countries. If we transfer personal information from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on recognized safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, unless the destination has been recognized as adequately protecting personal information.

Links to other sites

Our site links to other websites, such as Slow Food and WIPO. We aren't responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll give notice as the law requires.
